I Only Wanted You
They say memories are golden,
well maybe that is true.
I never wanted memories,
I only wanted you.
A million times I needed you,
a million times I cried.
If love alone could have saved you,
you never would have died.
In life I loved you dearly,
In death I love you still.
In my heart you hold a place,
no one could ever fill.
If tears could build a stairway
and heartache make a lane,
I'd walk the path to heaven
and bring you back again.
Our family chain is broken,
and nothing seems the same.
But as God calls us one by one,
the chain will link again.

Poem For The Living
When I am dead,
Cry for me a little.
Think of me sometimes,
But not too much.
It is not good for you
Or your wife or your husband
Or your children
To allow your thoughts to dwell
Too long on the dead.
Think of me now and again
As I was in life
At some moment which is pleasant to recall,
But not for long.
Leave me in peace
As I shall leave you, too, in peace.
While you live,
Let your thoughts be with the living.

Brownie had been bred the beginning of February and had an ultrasound showing no puppies. The ultrasound was to be repeated in two weeks. She developed an open pyometria - infection of the uterus. She started a course of antibiotics and was spayed due to her age. With an open pyo you have to treat then breed again the next heat and if the dog does not get pregnant they can develop pyometria again. This is life threatening - so we would not take a chance. Brownie was retired to enjoy the good life with us but someone came along and really wanted to give her special attention. She lived with her new family, spoiled and pampered until March 2018.

Our beautiful red girl. Mother to Sherman and Roxy. On her second pregnancy she miscarried a litter of 7 and had to be spayed due to pyometria in November 2015, luckily we were given more time with her. Kenzie was limping off and on for a couple of weeks. It then got worse and rest and meds did not help. X-rays showed a far advanced osteosarcoma of the right humerus. Strong pain killers were unable to help her out and she was having a terrible time getting up. We helped her to cross over the rainbow bridge, the vet did a house call. We truly miss her, she was a true Gentle Giant. She will join Cookie, Harry, Bear, Ella and many more who have gone before her.

Cookie ruled the roost. She had a great 10.5 years. She was mom to 2 separate litters, a total of 16 puppies. She was a typical Mastiff but would not tolerate the other Mastiff girls so had to be kept separate from them. When Cookie was around 12 weeks old I tripped over her in the family room, I did not want to land on her or harm her, so instead I broke some teeth in the fall trying to catch my balance, and have a scar under my lower lip.....all worth it. Cookie loved the water in the summer and you could not keep her out of the water trough. She loved to run from one end of our yard to the other chasing the motorcycles or noisy trucks as they went by on the road (of course she was fenced in). She decided on Sunday that she no longer wanted to eat and really wanted to just lie down in the snow outside and cross that bridge into heaven. Of course we would not leave her outside and really had to work hard to get her back inside. We coaxed her into a few more days but could not change her mind. We had to help her cross today by visiting the vet as we did not want her to suffer and she was not recovering. Rest in peace, Cookie, we love you and will always remember you. Here are a few of the photos from over the years.

Ella was bred and unfortunately developed an open pyometria - an infection of the uterus. She was great last night and first thing this morning. However before she made it to surgery she went into septic shock and had a cardiac arrest and died. We are devastated with this loss, we were so looking forward to puppies and many more years with Ella. We saw a beautiful rainbow on our way home this afternoon and think it was Ella telling us she is OK in heaven. We love you Ella and will never forget how affectionate you were.

Harry, wow, hard to believe we have lost you so soon. You had a brave battle with cancer and told us it was time to let you go. One last car ride. You were the best and we will never forget our time with you. I hope Bear and Grace met you when you crossed the bridge and you are all reunited cause we know all dogs go to heaven. Love you forever.

Bear was a big Teddy Bear (225 - 250 pounds), a true gentle giant and was loved by all.
He injured his elbow and required surgery at a young age. Elbow dysplasia could not be ruled out but - it is usually present in both elbows when genetic. Bear's other elbow was fine. Because of the possibility of this being genetic Bear was neutered and was never bred. He stayed with us all of his life as he was a fine example of the Mastiff temperament.
Everyone who met him wanted to take him home. Bear always had to have a toy, usually a Kong ball in his mouth.
Bear was not well for the last 6 months with diabetes insipidus, which meant that he had to pee a lot. To find out the cause would have been a long expensive journey and Bear was almost 9 years old. We found a medication that worked for a while. But then he started getting weaker having a hard time getting around and having issues with his vision and the medication dosage had to be increased and was not always working. We had to make a hard decision as he was suffering.
Bear will be truly missed by all. Rest in Peace Bear, we love you and are thankful for all that you gave us..
June 17, 2003 - July 5, 2013.
Grace was amazing just like her name. Grace was all about the "Gentle Giant" in every sense of the word. She gave us 26 puppies from 3 different litters. She was having issues with mobility and decided that it was time that she wanted to go. She refused the Friday before she passed away to come into the house and was lying underneath a tree at the side of the yard. We coaxed her in and enjoyed one more week before she refused to come inside. The vet came for a house call to help her cross over to heaven. We will truly miss you, Grace. Watch over us from heaven and we hope to see you again one day.

Dozer was Noble right to the end. He left us too soon. Dave called him in from outside and noticed that his stomach was huge. He rushed him into the vet going through a few red lights. It was too late. All we could do was end his pain as he had bloated and the chances were only 10% of survival.
Dozer was an awesome addition to our family. He was from our 2004 litter and had gone to a home and was very much loved there before being returned to us. Karen, Dozer's original owner, helped us out after Dozer's return with the dogs and raising the puppies. She loved Dozer immensely and visited with him often.
Dozer gave us 5 beautiful puppies with Brownie last year. He was a champion and was loved by all who met him. He loved milk bones as much as his mother Princess. He would not get up to go out in the morning until a milk bone was offered, and then he was up and ready.
His testing is below and see his OFA Results Page.
We miss you tremendously, Dozer. We thank you for being ours when you were here. We know that you crossed over easily to Heaven and that we have a new Guardian Angel watching over us.
May 15, 2001 - Dec. 6th 2009.
Princess was one of a kind and we really miss her. She loved her milk bones and pizza crusts. She gave us two wonderful litters of puppies , 10 puppies. She ended up with open pyometria (infection of the uterus) and had to be spayed. 1.5 weeks after this surgery she had a major amount of bleeding and ended up in intensive care at the Vet. Apparently there was still some infection and this may have caused the bleeding. Princess fully recovered.
We knew something was wrong when she would not come in when we called Milk Bone and when she refused to eat a milk bone once she was in. She chased after something in the yard and ended up twisting her stomach and bloating. She partially recovered but the Vet could not do anything for her but to end her pain. I thanked her for spending her life with us and for all the great times before she left on her journey across the rainbow bridge.

Angel died of heat stroke with Leroy and Jewel when the air conditioning in the dog building failed. She fought hard but just couldn't come back to us. Leroy was one of her grandsons. She is also great grandma to Oscar and Page and many more. Angel had a good life and gave us many wonderful puppies. We are truly saddened that her life was cut short. We really miss you Angel and you are now a true Angel.

Dragon was a Gentle Giant, a true Mastiff in every way. He gave us many puppies and lived a great, long life.
To this day he is one of our favourite mastiffs. He was a joy to have in our lives.

Bard was our second mastiff. He was very protective of us....we got him at 8 months old and he missed his first family with kids as we did not yet have any human kids, only dogs. We had another dog turn around at a dog show and lunge for and bite him in group. Since then he was protective.

Tiny was our very first Mastiff. She started us off in this breed and we have never looked back. We initially got her as a pet but she was the nicest in the litter and her breeder agreed we should show her to her championship, get her testing done and breed her. If it wasn't for Tiny we would not have our great love for the breed.
